Hopwood Summer Covenant

Friends, At our common life gatherings the topic of how we pray and read Scripture throughout the week has been an important part of our conversations. Some among us are drawn to the idea of a covenant, or commitment to pray and the reading of Scripture daily. All who feel called are invited to commit to the covenant below throughout the summer of 2011. Hopwood Christian Church Summer (May-August) 2011 Covenant • We commit to daily prayer at 9am, 12noon, and 6pm daily. Praying the Lord's Prayer and praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ at these times is encouraged. Joining together for prayer, if proximity allows, is also encouraged. • We commit to reading Scripture daily. To encourage Christian unity we invite you to follow the daily readings used by many believers around the globe. These are also the Scriptures used throughout the year at Hopwood's ecumenical prayer and Eucharist services and at Adoration services. The passages for each day can be found at: www.usccb.org (click on "Readings."). The June scriptures are in this week’s Hopwood bulletin. If you would like to commit to the above covenant, please contact Aaron Scott (317) 437-0327 or aaronpatrickscott@gmail.com. The names of those committing to the covenant will be shared with one another. The hope is that by knowing the others who make this covenant with us, we will be reminded that the commitment is not ours alone. Knowing the others who make the commitment will also provide the opportunity to contact each other for encouragement and accountability. Furthermore, the covenant provides a real, powerful, and practical way to share life with brothers and sisters in Christ connected with Hopwood who live and minister in other parts of the country and around the globe. The names of individuals who make this covenant will not be published in the Hopwood bulletin, listed on the website, or circulated outside of those who make the commitment. The goal is not to create a clique or to emphasize a separate group. The goal is not to be noticed or recognized for the commitment. The goal is for each of us, those who feel called to join in this covenant as well as those who do not, to grow in our discipleship. May God grant each of us grace as we do so.
